Challah for Hunger
Challah for Hunger is a non-profit organization that brings people together to bake and sell Challah with the purpose of raising money and awareness about the issue of hunger and food insecurity in college students. Half of the profits are donated to our national partner, Swipe Out Hunger, and the other half of our profits support a local hunger relief organization of the chapter’s choice. Our chapter donates to the Amherst Survival Center.

The RSO
We are a Registered Student Organization at UMass Amherst. As such, all undergraduate students at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst are eligible for membership. Being a board member puts you on the official Challah For Hunger roster and makes you eligible to take on additional responsibilities. Please email [email protected] if you would like to join the board!
Challah for Hungers mission at UMass Amherst is to foster a community environment in which all UMass students, regardless of religion, can come together to fight hunger, a widespread problem that affects millions every year. CfH at UMass seeks to accomplish this goal by making and selling Challah bread and donating the proceeds to both Swipe Out Hunger (our national partner) and a local hunger relief organization in the Pioneer Valley. We strive to hold baking sessions at least four times per semester, in addition to general body meetings, and hunger advocacy information sessions for volunteers and other student groups. We hope to raise awareness about food insecurity on campus in a way that UMass students see as fun and achievable.
